Stained Glass Windows Art Competition

St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Newman Center at UNLV invites visual artists in the Las Vegas area to submit original designs for a series of windows resembling the medium of stained glass to be installed in our new church. This competition seeks artwork that reflects the beauty of the Catholic faith while complementing the architecture and worship environment of our parish.

Three (3) Semi-Finalists will receive a Cash Prize of $1,000. The Winner of the competition will receive an additional Cash Prize of $2,000 and their signature on the installed stained glass as the artist. The selected artist will be commissioned to design the windows and must be available to collaborate with the manufacturer of the windows who will install the completed work.

There are two (2) sets of windows imitative of stained glass planned for the new church of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Newman Center. The first set includes eleven (11) panes behind the Altar which frame the wall enclosing the Tabernacle that will depict eighteen (18) saints representing the patrons for the colleges at UNLV. The second set, located to the side of the worship space, includes two (2) panes at an obtuse angle and shall flank a 3-D sculpture of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Jurors will use specific criteria to select the winning submission but reserve the right to collapse the competition and declare no winner.

The first submission should be completed and submitted to Fr. Daniel Rolland of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Newman Center before 5:00 P.M. on January 8, 2027. The jurors will decide on the Semi-Finalists on January 15, 2027. The winning design will be announced on June 11, 2027.
